It’s a New Year and I’m back to posting on my favorite topics – health and fitness. Today I came across an article on Natural News and was absolutely disgusted. Now, I am well aware that processed foods and fast foods are bad for you in general and I believe we all think we know the reasons for this. If you think it’s bad for you because it’s full of grease and fat you would be wrong. Try ammonia, E. Coli and salmonella. This is not only unhealthy, it’s down right dangerous.
Yes, beef companies are selling left over beef parts (which used to be sold to pet food companies) injected with ammonia to schools across the U.S. and fast food companies. The ammonia is deemed a processing agent and is used to kill off dangerous bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella. Apparently, the process of injecting beef products with ammonia makes the meat safe enough to pass inspection by the USDA that the USDA exempted companies processing meat in this way from any pathogen testing. Guess what? some of the products were found to contain E. Coli and salmonella.
Crazy eh? not only is meat or meat by-products being processed with ammonia the process itself was considered so safe that these companies are exempt from inspection. Since there is no inspection, a hamburger your kid eats at school can potentially containing e.coli or something worse. As if it weren’t bad enough that meat by-products are being passed off as ground beef and further injected with a toxic chemical. If this doesn’t make you want to start eating organically and preparing your own meals so that you know exactly what you’re eating I don’t know what does.
