get a six packFinding out how to get six pack abs may be something that’s a high priority for you when you’re trying to sculpt your body.  When you are working on how to get the coveted six pack though, remember that it is more than just pumping iron.  Diet and nutrition plays a huge role in the way your body will develop muscles. In order to make sure you’re doing everything necessary to get a six pack,  keep these few tips in mind.

First, let’s start with how often you eat. When you’re looking to pack on the muscle, don’t eat less than four or five meals a day. While putting on muscle and getting the six pack does mean that you are going to be eating more, don’t be alarmed. Chances are good that the meals that you eat like this are going to be smaller, and in many ways, more satisfying. This will allow for a faster metabolism and give you more energy to be much more efficient in your workouts.

Consider adding more dairy to your diet. Adding some dairy, such as 4-6oz of whole milk will help build bone strength, make you feel full and lower blood pressure Calcium in your diet can help out a great deal when you’re working out and you will also find that dairy can be a good source of protein and essential vitamin D.  Consider how to add a little milk,  yogurt or cottage cheese into your diet in order to help you lose fat and gain muscle faster.

You might also consider getting more fatty fish into your diet. Omega 3 fats are all the rage these days. Omega 3′s are an important nutrient for the skin, heart and can lower depression. It’s not only good for you, but did you know that it can lower the amount of fatty tissue in your body? The genes that lead to obesity are being regulated by Omega 3 fatty acids so it makes sense that it can also help you burn fat.

There are also some foods you should avoid or cut out in order to get a six pack. Sugary foods are going to be out.  If you have a sweet tooth, some alternative sweeteners can help. You should stick with sweeteners like Stevia which have a low impact on your insulin and are better for your health. Similarly, you should also avoid alcohol. Alcohol is full of empty calories and when consumed regularly will add up! If you really would like a drink, consider a glass of wine every now and then.

I used to think that getting a six pack was a matter of doing more crunches, sit-ups and ab exercises.  I thought that if I did 100 sit-ups a day I will have a flatter and more well defined stomach.

Not so, according to Mike Geary of Truth about Abs fame. Fat loss is the number one component of  how you start to get a six pack. Losing fat is a matter of diet and eating the right kind of foods that puts your metabolism in overdrive.

Food that has creates a huge spike in glucose levels in our body such as high fructose corn syrup and sugar do little to burn fat and should be avoided as much as possible.  It sabotages  fat loss efforts. Instead you should eat more foods that are high in protein and complex carbohydrates. Foods that are high in fiber such as fruits and grains will release glucose into the body more slowly and over a longer period of time. This ultimately helps you feel less hungry and increases your body’s fat burning capabilities.

Also, doing the proper exercises such as building muscle on your body which will continue to burn calories over a longer period of time once you are done exercising will also  help increase fat loss.

It is the result of proper diet and learning the right type of exercises that increase fat loss more efficiently that will ultimately  lead you to get a six pack.

supplementsI recently read an article today that was a little misleading.   The focus of the article attempted to discuss which over the counter diet pills were best for weight loss.

I suppose that’s a question that some people would like to know the answer to.  However, the article went on to say that the writer did not take diet pills just supplements for weight loss.  More importantly, the writer of the article said that supplements were different because they were all-natural and therefore safe to use in comparison.

I would agree that natural is often much better for our body than something that is synthetic, however, to say that all supplements are safe is not entirely true and can give people who are not educated on the subject a false sense of safety.

Most supplements are not regulated by the FDA and the way you respond to a particular supplement is not known until you try it.  Some herbs are quite powerful and can interfere with other medication or ailments you might already have.

Furthermore, taking too much of a vitamin or supplement can cause undesirable side-effects or be down right toxic under certain conditions.

I will always lean to the side of all-natural is best when it comes to nutrition, but as far as supplements are concerned you should always find out what a supplement contains and check with your doctor or holistic medical practitioner whether a supplement is right for you.

Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s always good for you.  Just my two cents.
