Puzzles are a great way to exercise the mind

Do you find it hard to concentrate because so much is going on around you? It’s amazing how much stimuli is around us all day. Things like radio, television, computers and magazines. All this media surrounding us and throwing information at us all day, it’s no wonder we forget things. Our brains are simply on information overload most of the time.

In addition we have constant distractions with cell phones and electronic devices that are designed to help us multi-task. Trying to go from one job to another and perform it well has also taxed our brains and caused us have problems concentrating.

Did you know that our brains can be trained to be more effective and remember things more easily?

Lack of concentration and memory loss are often blamed on aging, however, if the brain is challenged it can remain strong. We can exercise our brain more by reading more, playing puzzles such as crosswords or Sudoku.

Diet and exercise are also important factors when fighting memory loss. When you eat a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and lean proteins as well as stay fit you are helping your brain stay stronger.

Here’s a tip: Try something new. Take a class or start a new sport such as golf or tennis. You will be helping your brain expand its ability to concentrate by doing something you’ve never done before.  Not only that, you will feel better about yourself for learning something new.
