Diet Pills or Supplements – What’s the difference?
I recently read an article today that was a little misleading. The focus of the article attempted to discuss which over the counter diet pills were best for weight loss.
I suppose that’s a question that some people would like to know the answer to. However, the article went on to say that the writer did not take diet pills just supplements for weight loss. More importantly, the writer of the article said that supplements were different because they were all-natural and therefore safe to use in comparison.
I would agree that natural is often much better for our body than something that is synthetic, however, to say that all supplements are safe is not entirely true and can give people who are not educated on the subject a false sense of safety.
Most supplements are not regulated by the FDA and the way you respond to a particular supplement is not known until you try it. Some herbs are quite powerful and can interfere with other medication or ailments you might already have.
Furthermore, taking too much of a vitamin or supplement can cause undesirable side-effects or be down right toxic under certain conditions.
I will always lean to the side of all-natural is best when it comes to nutrition, but as far as supplements are concerned you should always find out what a supplement contains and check with your doctor or holistic medical practitioner whether a supplement is right for you.
Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s always good for you. Just my two cents.
