Do they provide alternate exercises if you dont have the resistance bands and if so are they as effective??\

It is essential to get either a set of dumbbells OR resistance bands for p90x. If you do not have either, you wil miss out on a huge portion of the workouts. I personally prefer dumbbells but it is just a matter of preference.
