they advertise that it will “increase your stability, mobility and balance”

of course that will help but should not replace weight training and take the place of running on a regular basis.

might be good for your non-running days

Question by Grant: how do treadmills work compared to regular running?
treadmills dont seem like they really work because all your doing is picking up your feet when the platform moves for you. is running a mile on a treadmill the same as running a mile on the sidewalks.

This is an age old question about how Treadmills compare to running outside. It is similar but different. The degree of work needed is not the same on the treadmill as it is outside. One way to compensate for this is to ensure that the incline is at least 1 – 2%, this helps simulate resistance and what running outdoors on a flat surface is like.

There are charts out there that compare running speed and incline vs. running outdoors. Through I can’t think of one at this time, but I am sure yahoo can find you a chart in no time. If you are looking to train indoors for a long distance event, I know many who train on a treadmill through the winter and emerge to run some good times in spring events. However, your Long run should be run outside as often as you can safely manage it. This helps the body adjust for outside runs.

Good luck
Harry
